Chequered Lily swatches and giveaway winner

Hello everyone. It’s Saturday and the day to announce my giveaway winner. Dreadfully Divine you can find her blog here. I checked her out after her comment post and she is amazing at eye makeup! She has no idea of my praises and I do not personally know her in case anyone might think I chose a friend for this giveaway. I am just paranoid like that 😀 Please contact me with an address within a week so I can mail it to you.  Thanks to all who commented.

Now here is the rest of the swatches I was given (thoughts are my own) along with the Halloween samples.

001 004

Fireflies and Hearts of fire are my favorite of the swatches I received but they are all lovely and pigmented. I accidentally swatched Marina twice but you can definitely tell the blues are two different tones and Sea of Cortez has a beautiful sparkle to it.

Does anyone have any other brand I should try on etsy? I’d love to hear your suggestions.

The Chequered Lily Apothecary: New Shadow review and Giveaway *** closed ***

If you have followed me from the beginning, you know, I have a deep affection for Kimberly the owner of The Chequered Lily Apothecary. You can find her items for sale here on etsy. You can find special deals post and any updates in general on her facebook page. She always has a special going on. When you purchase a cumulative (meaning not just in one order but could be a couple) of 50.00 you get a free shadow.

She recently launched a Halloween line. Visit her shop and read the descriptions you can tell how much love and thought she has put into her work.

Here are the swatches.

Click picture to see the swatches better.

First is #162 Silent As The Snow – “Icy metallic pearl white with silver sparkle. ”

Next is #163 Form Of Mist – “Warm semi-sheer metallic pewter with lavender undertone.”

Then there is #165 Memento Mori – “Metallic charcoal grey with dark maroon undertone. ”

Lastly is #164 Bloodflower – “Rich metallic burgundy-red with red shimmer.”

My favorite is Bloodchilde but all are creamy and it didn’t take much to make this vibrant of a swatch.

Then there is a matching blusher and glitter.

Click picture to see the swatches better.

The glitter is #G12 Nightchilde – ” Ruby & crimson glitters blended with black and silver.”

The blusher is #B07 The Sinking Night – “Cool lavender-tinted matte medium grey.

The glitter is crazy pigmented. And I have other blushers so I can talk about the quality as they are creamy and a lot goes a long way. I have accidentally over powdered before so use sparingly. I think the color is creative and would look awesome on super pale or super dark skin.

Ok so the giveaway is a full size (she now has two sizes in the shadows with the full size being a really awesome looking jar — I wish I could keep it… can I win my own giveaway? lol) of Silent as the Snow.

To win this you must

  • Be over 17 years old
  • Located in the USA
  • Go to the Etsy shop and let me know if you found a favorite eyeshadow color.

Next Saturday I will draw a winner in a video with my youngest son 😀

Disclaimer: The samples in this post and the giveaway item was given to me by the company. I am not being compensated in any way and the opinions are my own.

Stash Review: Eye Shadow Crayons

Next on the stash review is eyeshadow crayons.  I am going to keep all but one. I don’t really have that many, And usual disclaimer I purchased these with my own money and any opinions are my own

mally is a definite keeper. I wish I had more of these. They are creamy and have real staying power.

Jordana and La Colors. The jordana is creamy and awesome as a black base. I like this better than NYX crayons. The LA Color is ok for a dollar. If your on a tight budget are workable,

Avon …these are as great as the Mally but the two colors are too similar. I keeping the more purple one and giving away the other one,

NYX I have three colors and these are alright. I wouldn’t purchase another as I don;t use them enough.

Here are swatches.

Do you have any eye crayons you love? Let me know below.

Current Favorites

This was suppose to be an August Favorites post but it’s way to far into august to now call it that and really they are current favorites not necessarily August alone. 😀

057036 Keihls eye cream. I found this in my stash and brought it back out. A Mary Kay sampler. The blush on me has lasted at least six hours and the eye shadows at least ten if not more. A look done using all the products mentioned. Disclaimer I purchased all these items myself. And my thoughts are always my own.
I don’t care for the new Milani Bella line as eyeshadows but these two colors as highlights are amazing!

Mally Perfect Prep under eye brightener. This stuff really is what she calls a face lift in a bottle. It can be used other places for a gorgeous effect like around the nose and on bridge.
Shany Brush I have been using for foundation. It is synthetic and not especially soft but it does a great job at buffing the foundation into your skin.
A famous summer staple for contouring. What else can be said? 😀
This brow gel is less expensive and just as awesome as my beloved Tarte Eyebrow Mousse. I want to get the blonde color as well.
I’ve been mixing these two foundations for a satin perfect color match flawless look.
These two lip combo items have been long lost cousins. They compliment each other so well. The lip stick is bare minerals my favorite brand for lipsticks.
Close up of the foundation color mixed and how stay put the brow gel is as this is dried and rubbed.
I find the Mally eye pencils to be even more creamier then Urban Decay’s and has the same longevity. It glides on and I want every color. lol

The last picture is the swatches of the rest of the products. It also shows the coloring of the foundations alone.

Are any of these your favorite as well or a not so favorite? Share below or you can do random comments and questions. Don’t forget my social media’s. I had a mini hiatus but I have been more active recently.

Has this month…. (Wish List Post)

Gotten away from anyone else? I can’t believe the kids are back in school and the temp is finally summer weather. Though summer is alright I am looking forward to my favorite season fall.

I am currently on a no buy due to going to Dallas for the Makeup Show late September but I do have things on a wishlist. Here are a few.

I am a foundation junkie so I am wanting to try these two foundations.

For lips I have always drooled over these but never committed,

And lastly for eyes… I am on the fence as I have read conflicting reviews and well I have several neutral palettes.

What have you been wanting to try lately? I am always looking for ideas.

Please check out my social medias to your right. I would appreciate it!

Scaredy Cat Cosmetics

My obsession for independent Etsy makeup stores was refueled recently with scaredy cat cosmetics.

005 007 011 012 019 020

So just five questions

1 … well dual question first why/how got started and came up with company name

2 what is your inspiration for colors and their names?

3 do you have a beauty or company motto saying etc

4 what does the future hold for scaredy cat?

5 anything you want to share that I might have missed asking?

1. I got started after working as a graphic artist at a local advertising studio. We worked with a lot of fashion brands and I always really enjoyed watching the make up artists work during our photo shoots. So, I began teaching myself how to work with powders and pigments. This lead to me learning how to make my own colors, pigments, powder, and skin care products.

The company itself was started during a rather difficult time for my family. The recession had hit us hard and starting such a project at that time was pretty intimidating. I have a little orange tabby cat that always knew how to cheer me up when I needed it. He became the inspiration for the name and logo. He’s even helping me now by resting his chin on my keyboard.

2. The inspiration for the colors and names come from so many different places. I often pull from nature for my color inspiration, be it a flower I saw that day or a colorful bird I saw in a nature documentary. The names are often puns that relate to the color or label illustration. I also have a soft spot for internet terminology (e.i. Teal Deer and Flounce Cat).

3. I don’t have an official company motto, but I live by the belief that beauty is self-confidence applied directly to the face.

4. We are currently going through a lot of changes. My family just purchased some real estate and we will be building new and bigger facilities. This should allow us to expand into more product lines. I have so many things I want to get onto the market (especially these nail polishes with their super adorable bottles).

5. I wish I could think of something, but forgive me I’m drawing a blank (spent the day on the build site and I’m just beat). Thanks for giving me this opportunity to chat with you. Cheers!
I think the pictures speak for themselves. And I can attest they stay on my oily kids so they will yours. I love how they’re subtle shades then bold ones depending on your mood.

Only con is though the vials hold a lot and are super cute they are hard to get the pigment out. But they were a draw to my purchase so for me easy to overlook and I depot most everything anyway.

Disclaimer I purchased with my own money (five vials are eight dollars with shipping) and the opinions are my own. I was not asked to review then either.

Well you be trying them?

Ipsy : July 2014

This is a collage of what i received. The bag was a bright pink with scallops. It is in the top five of bags I have received in over a year. So without further ado.

I got mine in barely Nude and have used it. I love it I plan on getting a full size of this shade and maybe a second. Only downfall is the doe foot applicator. If I were to use it on clients I’d have to think of a different method to apply hygienically.

It’s sunscreen and you can find just as good of sunscreen at walmart.
Models Own

Nail Polish in Red Sea

The Models Own SPLASH collection dives straight into summer. Revitalize your entire polish collection; wear alone for a wash effect, or over your favorite color polish for a glistening top coat. It’s nail polish and a nice summery color. Very thick texture which I like.
So it was a decent bag. I found something I would purchase again which is rare. I purchase the bags myself but I do get points towards items if you use my link to subscribe. The link is here.
I did cash in some of my points this month for the first time. I got this bare minerals Light it Up lipstick. It’s a beautiful coral shade. I have already gotten compliments on work for wearing it. I want to thank everyone who signed up through me. It is really appreciated!!!

Random Sunday 04/27/2014

I have made a executive decision. I will have three set day themes for the blog and will post various other things when I have the time or idea. The scheudle and theme is as follows:

Sunday: a week recap and upcoming things in the next week. A get to know me and my life better.

Wednesday: A question of the week for us all to get to know each other.

Friday: Will no longer be foundation reviews only but reviews in general. I am thinking something catchy like Favorite it or forget it 😀 I have a thing for using the letters of the day in the overall name.

Last week my favorite instagram EOTD was …

And my favorite instagram LOTd was…

I purchased from my favorite etsy shop The Chequered Lily Apothecary. Her facebook let me know she is having a sale where the colors left are only 4.55 and the colors are never disappointing. The picture on the left is the ones I purchased and the four on the right is the free samples she sent me in my purchase. All the shadows I purchased were used in the eye look for the LOTD photo above.

My previous posts can be found here and here.

The last exciting thing that happened this week is I got approved for an account at Model Mayhem and discount approved for Frends which for Makeup Artist you can get up to 40% products depending on the brand.

This coming week, I will be part of the newest month’s blog Hop (Hint the theme is Mother’s Day Gifts)

I finally am almost done writing the post on an award I received. I love those things but one of the rules is to award it to a blog with less than two hundred followers BUT I am not sure how we tell the numbers. Anybody else know?

On a personal note, I take my son who had/has the cancer for testing to see if his learning/special needs to PTSD related. For all those parents that struggle with knowing what’s right for your children. I am a social worker by actual profession and sometimes you make a choice that it wrong tough one BUT I think it is all based on intent. Anyway I am not trying to make this blog a downer. I just mention it as I am hopeful that we find the puzzle piece that helps him move forward in life.

Ok well I also want to say I appreciate everyone who reads my blog… oh and if you didn’t notice (and well who would) I took the plunge and got my own domain. I am so super exited and happy I did. IT fits into the name of my business which is slowly starting to take off. Whoo Hoo! Please leave comment, ask questions, and random thoughts below.

And check out my social media sites. I would appreciate that as well.

All the while, an encapsulated vitamin A, C and E complex helps to deliver antioxidant defense, so you’re ready for anything—and everything.

I already own a larger size of this so I will still review it BUT will include this one in a giveaway I have planned soon. WHoot Whoot 😀

Nicole by OPI Roughles in On What Grounds — Nicole by OPI launches Roughles (“ruffles”) – 4 new textured nail lacquers featuring speckled, pastel shades of purple, pink, turquoise and yellow. When the lacquer dries, Roughles lacquers reveal a unique pebbled finish. For the perfect matte effect, skip the top coat!

Though the color is beautiful. I don’t like this color for myself. This will be another giveaway item.

This Month's Box

Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensee Cologne Absolue — We fell in love with Atelier Cologne’s Vanille Insensée Cologne Absolue at first sniff. Unlike most vanilla scents, this highly concentrated blend of jasmine, vanilla, and lime is fresh, not sweet. Happily, the long-lasting fragrance lasts all day — we’re smitten and you will be too.

Vasanti Brighten up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator — To fully appreciate this professional-grade scrub, a brief skincare lesson is in order. Let’s start with enzymes: These potent molecules actually dissolve the bonds that hold dead skin cells together. Next up are microderm crystals: ultrafine minerals that buff away tired skin. Vasanti’s multi-action exfoliator features both these skincare wonders, plus healing natural ingredients to get the jump on irritation. The result? Renewed, refreshed skin without any redness. How it Works — This powerful exfoliator mimics the results of professional microdermabrasion, minus the potential for redness and sensitivity. First, papaya enzymes break down dead cells while evening out your skin tone. Next, dermatologist-approved microderm crystals fade the appearance of fine lines and acne scars, leaving skin smooth and free of imperfections. Finally, aloe vera, coconut, and vitamins B and E nourish fresh skin to keep it free of irritation. How to Use —Three to five times a week, wet your face and massage a pea-sized amount of product into skin, concentrating on trouble zones. Rinse away. Used consistently, a single tube will last you four to six months.

theBalm cosmetics How ‘Bout Them Apples — Like Matt Damon’s famous one-liner in Good Will Hunting, this dual-purpose cream palette from theBalm® is destined to be a classic. Each one of these easy-to-blend shades can be used on both cheeks and lips, and they won’t streak or fade once applied. Have your way with six orchard-inspired colors, from a perky Cobbler red to a demure and sophisticated Caramel.

Obliphica Intensive Hair Serum — Sometimes the best treatments take time and maintenance, but in a 140 character-based world, sometimes we want a little more instant gratification. Once applied, this nourishing serum gets to work, reviving damaged, colored, and all-around unmanageable hair without weighing it down—for a smooth, shiny Instagram-worthy finish.

Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream — There’s no shortage of options when it comes to finding a heroic BB cream or tinted moisturizer for the face. But for years, self-tanner was our only option when it came to perfecting the skin on our arms and legs. Enter our latest Birchbox Find: a complexion-correcting moisturizer for the whole body. This five-in-one formula from Jergens® works on multiple levels to hydrate, illuminate, visibly firm, even skin tone, and reduce the appearance of imperfections. As if that weren’t enough, it absorbs into skin faster than you can say “flaky.” You’ll see visible results in as little as five days.

Alright so I will have my results middle of next month though I am behind on February’s review. Where did this month go?????

Comments? Questions? Just want to say Hi? Leave a comment below. Also… join me on my social media sites… especially instagram I share a LOTD. ETOD and other random things on there pretty regularly. I would appreciate it 😀
