Battle of the Boxes: February 2014

This month I just have Birchbox and Ipsy. I am done with Glossybox. I am planning on trying beauty box five. I think it should start in March. This time I am going to take personal pictures in the results post. I am taking the photo from the sites on what they sent me with their descriptions.

This Month's Box

COOLA Tinted Matte SPF 30 for Face

Birchbox Breakdown

Slathering on sunscreen can seem more like a chore than a proper primping ritual, but COOLA’s standout facial tint has us (gasp) actually looking forward to applying SPF. The silky, mousse-like consistency is a far cry from the greasy lotions we’re used to, and it gives us lasting sun protection without an overpowering scent. Made with 70 percent organic ingredients—including plenty of antioxidants—the eco-friendly formula dries down to a matte finish. The subtle beige tint evens out skin tone and masks flaws. It works best for light to medium complexions.

Harvey Prince Hello

Birchbox Breakdown

Allow us to introduce you to your new warm weather scent. For their latest fragrance, the brother duo behind Harvey Prince decided to mimic the joy of waking up to a warm day with the sun shining and the flowers blooming. The resulting blend is an energizing mix of citrus and floral notes that will keep you optimistic even when you get up on the wrong side of the bed.

100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Mascara

Birchbox Breakdown

While picking blackberries in her garden, 100% Pure founder Susie Wang noticed that the fruit stained her skin a beautiful deep red color—and had an epiphany: All-natural pigments could mimic the brilliance of harsh artificial dyes, minus the irritating side effects. Years later, after earning a high-powered degree from Berkeley and spending countless hours in the lab, 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Mascara was born. Made with antioxidant-rich fruits and veggies, the eco-chic mascara lengthens and fortifies even the sparsest lashes.  ****** I gave this to my friend as well so will not be able to direct review but can give my thoughts on it as a product.

DDF® Ultra Lite Oil Free Moisturizing Dew

Birchbox Breakdown

In an effort to battle an abundance of unwanted shine, we sometimes err on the side of going too matte, caking on unflattering layers that make skin appear dull and dry. This lightweight oil-free moisturizer works on all skin types—yes, even acne-prone—to replenish moisture without clogging pores. A mix of aloe vera, vitamins A, C, and E, and grapeseed extract hydrate, leaving skin soft and dewy (not overly shiny and certainly not lackluster).

Agave Healing Oil Treatment

Birchbox Breakdown

Mexico’s blue agave is best known as the source of tequila, but we’re also intoxicated by its ability to moisturize and strengthen hair. Agave extract is a key ingredient in this healing oil treatment created by Beverly Hills hairdresser Fernando Romero (Romero, an Acapulco native, calls agave “nature’s smoothing secret.”). The lightweight oil helps hair build resiliency as it boosts vibrancy, shine, and color. We’ll raise a glass to that!

And that is it for birchbox. The same disclaimer for Ipsy signing up is for Birchbox. Here is my link if you’d like to join and use my link I would appreciate it.

  1. I don’t get ipsy, but I do get birch box. I got the same box and I loved the agave hair treatment and I always love the DDF products, they’re really nice. I’ve nominated you for the Shine on Award if you’d like to participate 🙂
