March Blog Hop 2014

Featured Image

This Month’s theme for the facebook community I am part of is road trip. Each of us are picking different places to do and what we would bring that is just five things instead of the usual staples like skincare/toothbrush/soap etc. I am probably going to be the odd one but my post is last minute road trip due to something sad like a funeral or (like I thought I had to this month) a hospital trip or heck even something joyful like a new baby that came earlier then expected.

Two weeks ago I thought I would have to go to Memphis TN to St Judes with my son. Due to positive and a bummer reason, we ultimately didn’t. But this post made me think if I did what would I have brought. I am not someone who has to wear makeup out in public (not judging either way) but I find myself more and more not wanting to leave the house without it on. Works wise I do feel I need it on as I have yet to not wear it to work. I think I would scare some folks lol. Putting make up in the morning is 15-45 minutes of myself relaxing, watching beauty Youtube videos and getting in touch with my creative side. I feel like I am painting a canvas and it relaxes me and gets me ready for my high stress career. I do usually for doctors appointments or things that I think I might cry at I go very light with makeup.

Ok enough babbling onto to why I choose the items I did. Sorry if some of the pictures are huge I don’t know what happened there or how to fix it????

image

Eyebrow powder/mousse/pencil — whatever I am using at the moment. I am not good at brow pencils so I do use powders but the last part of last year I found my holy grail item and it is the Tarte Amazonian Eyebrow Mousse. Brows are something I feel need to be done to really make your face look complete. It is funny but in the last year I have finally found my groove in doing them. I have gotten compliments at Sephora in regards to how good they are … and I find those ladies don’t compliment much HA

image

Concealer: What ever is your favorite or current using. I like this one as a brightener and when things are sad or worrisome those dark circle are going to shine. This might not make them disappear as a full on face but it will help.

image

The Z palette I have pre made with all the basic powders. A couple blushers, a highlight, and bronzer. These double as eyeshadows as well. I can interchange them quickly too but I usually don’t. (disregards the othe items in the photo it’s one of my “stock” photos.)

image

Mascara: I pick a simple easy to use mascara that doesn’t coat and cake my eyelashes like I usually do. Like the brows mascara is a must that is meant as background item.

image

I love Asian BB creams. They are thick and luxurious and American one do not compare. I no longer even try out american ones. I have tried various Asian brands but this is my favorite by far. I like the shade range in this particular version. This will give some coverage and moisturize at the same time. Plus who thinks or worries about sun coverage at sad times.

I did not include lipstick or gloss as I always have three or four rolling around in my bag. I also have powder and a retractable kabuki brush in my purse. Just in case wondering why I did not mention those things… plus I had to stick to five lol

This is going up late today. This month has been a strange combination of joys and heartaches. Overall I am glad to see it gone and look forward to the spring. It is a favorite season of mine. Please go check out the other blogs as well found below.

This Month's Box

COOLA Tinted Matte SPF 30 for Face

Birchbox Breakdown

Slathering on sunscreen can seem more like a chore than a proper primping ritual, but COOLA’s standout facial tint has us (gasp) actually looking forward to applying SPF. The silky, mousse-like consistency is a far cry from the greasy lotions we’re used to, and it gives us lasting sun protection without an overpowering scent. Made with 70 percent organic ingredients—including plenty of antioxidants—the eco-friendly formula dries down to a matte finish. The subtle beige tint evens out skin tone and masks flaws. It works best for light to medium complexions.

Harvey Prince Hello

Birchbox Breakdown

Allow us to introduce you to your new warm weather scent. For their latest fragrance, the brother duo behind Harvey Prince decided to mimic the joy of waking up to a warm day with the sun shining and the flowers blooming. The resulting blend is an energizing mix of citrus and floral notes that will keep you optimistic even when you get up on the wrong side of the bed.

100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Mascara

Birchbox Breakdown

While picking blackberries in her garden, 100% Pure founder Susie Wang noticed that the fruit stained her skin a beautiful deep red color—and had an epiphany: All-natural pigments could mimic the brilliance of harsh artificial dyes, minus the irritating side effects. Years later, after earning a high-powered degree from Berkeley and spending countless hours in the lab, 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Mascara was born. Made with antioxidant-rich fruits and veggies, the eco-chic mascara lengthens and fortifies even the sparsest lashes.  ****** I gave this to my friend as well so will not be able to direct review but can give my thoughts on it as a product.

DDF® Ultra Lite Oil Free Moisturizing Dew

Birchbox Breakdown

In an effort to battle an abundance of unwanted shine, we sometimes err on the side of going too matte, caking on unflattering layers that make skin appear dull and dry. This lightweight oil-free moisturizer works on all skin types—yes, even acne-prone—to replenish moisture without clogging pores. A mix of aloe vera, vitamins A, C, and E, and grapeseed extract hydrate, leaving skin soft and dewy (not overly shiny and certainly not lackluster).

Agave Healing Oil Treatment

Birchbox Breakdown

Mexico’s blue agave is best known as the source of tequila, but we’re also intoxicated by its ability to moisturize and strengthen hair. Agave extract is a key ingredient in this healing oil treatment created by Beverly Hills hairdresser Fernando Romero (Romero, an Acapulco native, calls agave “nature’s smoothing secret.”). The lightweight oil helps hair build resiliency as it boosts vibrancy, shine, and color. We’ll raise a glass to that!

And that is it for birchbox. The same disclaimer for Ipsy signing up is for Birchbox. Here is my link if you’d like to join and use my link I would appreciate it.

January Beauty Box Results 2014

So I have either ran out of my samples or used them enough to give my reviews. I got January’s late for two of the boxes so I am hoping to get on a more regular schedule for this series. Plus starting in March I am going to have a new series I hope you all will like so keep your eyes peeled (As kid I always found this saying gross… am I the only one??? LOL) To see what was in the boxes and the companies details see this post here. It also as links if you would like to sign up through me. Disclaimer: I purchased these boxes with my own money and my opinions are my own without compensation.

007

My results: This is an ok moisturizer. It did not leave my skin tight which is a must for a moisturizer as I tend to be more on the dry side then the oily side. I say if you have oily skin and organic things are important to you it is a good purchase. I did not use as a highlight on my brow bone as I have other things I am trying to use up but I think it would be perfect there as well. I do think it is versatile like that. I will not be repurchasing though.

008

My Results: This does have great staying power but for my age for every day use it is too shimmery. If I ever go out on a date with my husband again and want to jazz it up, I will use this for some extra pazazz without feeling not my age. I did not use it for a highlight because I have other things I want to use up first. I do think it will work awesome there though and look good if you want something very shimmery. I would buy this in different colors.

006

My Results: I LOVE THESE THINGS!! The issue is you can’t purchase these on their own and I don’t need the whole Proactiv System. So a fail in that aspect. Boo Hoo. If I could get them on their own I would purchase them.

011

My Result: I love this stuff. It is very pigmented and a lovely shade. It is moisturizing and had some staying power. I would purchase more colors IF I didn’t already have a ton of lip products. Due to my small lips I am just not a lippie junkie. Though I have my moments. I highly recommend if you can get a deal as I find MICA to be a little pricey for not being a top brand. Not that the quality isn’t there it’s just let’s be honest us girls can be swayed by brand names.

010

My results: OMG THIS STUFF IS THE BOMB!!!  I wish I had tried this out fully before the coupon code ran out. I at first thought meh I would get this after my neutragena had run out that is similar but this blows it out of the water. My hair hasn’t been this soft in years even with my coconut masks.

001

My results: This is a cool concept. I wish in hindsight I would have my smoker friend try it out as I best it would really work well for her BUT I can’t verify that. With that said I don’t think I get stinky enough to really say I would need these on a regular basis. (Or at least I hope not as it would be body odor … yuck so gross HA)

002

My results: There is no sugar coating this. For the fancy name and the price this is not worth it. LORAC’s is so much better. It drags and isnt that “shiny” as I like my black liquid liner to be. It’s not horrible but for the price there is better is the bottom line. I will be giving the extra away in the future as someone else might love it. That’s the great thing about makeup it’s all based on preference and opinion. There is no wrong answers! 😀

003

My Results: I gotta say I was not excited about this as my darker thick hair just doesn’t work with a lot of shampoos and not get that gray white cast. For that reason I never use the stuff. I have just plan given up. For the sake of review I tried this and I LOVE it. It actually did give my hair some oomph and revitalized it. I did not notice any gray or white cast. I would buy it again.

005

My Result: Meh. It is thick and does what it says but so does petroleum jelly. This to me is nothing special so I will not make a point to purchase it again but if gifted to me I wouldn’t feel disappointed either.

006

My Results: I have used this brand before and it is a great brand but not a Holy Grail brand. The cleanser was great and a little went a long way. I would make a point to buy this if it was sold in a store. The lotion was nothing special. The eye cream is not enough of a sample to say it really did what it said. It appears to be good and it is moisturizing.

012

My Results: This is like a lot of the things I tried. It is a worthy product just not one I would go out of my way to buy. If given to me again I would be happy to use it but I don’t feel it is any different or better then my Missha aqua cream. Price wise I will stick with the Missha.

002

My Results: I had already recently bought a beauty blender. I do like them and think everyone should have one in their beauty stash. I know the solid soap is pricey and I compared it to my much cheaper Dr Bonners and I will be doing a separate post in regards to comparing it. I will say though if money was no object to me I would re-purchase it. Until I win the lottery I probably won’t repurchase.

003

My Result: This color and consistency was beautiful. I wore it often the last few weeks. It has staying power and if I didn’t already have plenty of loose blushes I don’t use I would buy more.

088

My Results: I LOVE THIS FRAGRANCE! I would buy a full size and well might once this good size sample runs out. The Sea Salt Spray was a fail to me. It was very drying. I have a different brand Not Your Momma’s and it is drying as well but not so starchy drying. If that makes sense 😀 It will also be going in a give away as only used once.

And that is my conclusion/results. What do you think of these products if you have tried them as well?

I am getting a kevyn Aucoin foundation for 5.oo a Givenchy for 5.00 and MAC lustre drops for 8! all promised to be barely used. She lets you know how much she firmly believes is in the packaging. She has set the rules straight, has great Pricing, and is honest in the fact of how she cares for her things but leaves the sanitation of the things to us as some folks care allergic etc. Anyway as of right now she has a lot still available. My stuff says pending but I promise I GOT THEM BABIES!  lol she updates it about every 12 hours I think she says/told me???

Indie Review: MAD Cosmetics

A few months back I became obsessed loose eye shadow on etsy. I have raved and raved about Chequered Lily but that company does not have any matte’s as far as I have seen. When I was browsing I saw this beautiful brown with green flecks in it. The title caught my eye too. It is called Mint Chocolate. My Fave Flavor EVER!!! The etsy site doesn’t allow for samples. I emailed the company and they nicely and quickly replied for me to use their main website found HERE. To my awesome amazement they had and I saw today still have a thirty percent sale going on. If you get baggie samples the shipping is pretty cheap.

The second batch I got were more neutral colors with a couple shimmer colors. THIS COMPANY HAS THE BEST MATTE SHADES EVER! Find them in one spot HERE. I plan on getting second bags while on sale to double my amount. Ponder is the best base/transition color for any medium to dark look.

I ordered from them recently and found the products to be of great quality. I recommend the pencil concealers I am not a fan of pencil concealers BUT these are awesome.

Heads Up on a new Benefit Product

In the mail a couple weeks ago, I got a sample and a code to be one of the first to purchase. I don’t plan on it but wanted to pass on to my reader’s in case you wanted to give it a try. The swatches are against my currently about NC15 skin and are from darker to lighter on my arm with the two lightest on my face. Of course the sample was small but you can see it smooth out on my face and I liked the texture and the smoothness it showed on my face BUT for me not something I felt I needed. I will stick with my Korean BB creams for now. 😀 Also Birchbox has it for sale early as well. If you are not already a birchbox subscriber and you want to be I’d appreciate you use my link… now I don’t get money but I do get points to get items so that’s AWESOME lol

GRWM: Valentines Renewed Vows look

Last Sunday a local tourist spot known for weddings was doing their yearly Valentines time frame wedding vows renewal. My hubby and I had taken our younger two earlier in the year to tour the cave and the tour guide told the group about how they do this every year for free. I mentioned how awesome it would be to do that and as usual my husband acted between non-committal to why bother. So I never brought it up again. I did however ask for at Christmas a weekend away without our kids like a second honeymoon. We never got a first honeymoon as we got married when my pregnant hormones went into full gear and decided I had to be married before our oldest was born. Needless to say I did not want a honeymoon at 7 months pregnant. Though loads of people now do pregnant getaways I had never heard of that thirteen years ago.

So when my husband last Friday said to me that he wanted to go this Sunday and renew our vows. I WAS AWED! He later would tell me it is cheaper to be romantic that way then a weekend getaway. HA We did get  lots of free things to go with the renewal and it was super sweet. We didn’t know how it worked so we wrote our own vows. I will be posting the whole experience on my personal reflection blog on Friday. I will link it in my Friday planned post here. Man I can really complicate simple stuff huh. *** Warning the personal blog is pretty juicy as it details my raw life and how I am trying to cope with mental illness.

Ok so onto how I completed a smokey pink Romantic look.

047
The night before I started with a good mask. It was a sample I had handy.
048
As you can see this is a great mask though I believe pricey. If I won the lottery I would buy it but otherwise the cheaper stuff I am using is working fine for me 😀
049
Next Morning I cleaned my face, re-vitalized, and moisturizer.
051
My normal clean face … ready for the transformation?
052
I prepped my eyes with these items as I have oily lids.
055
I decided to use the Silk Natural Urban Decay dupe shades
054
Eyes Primed and ready to go
056
First my crease and transition shade I used the same shade. This shade is a dupe for the UD Nooner. Great matte shade.
057
Next I applied Virtual to my lid for a little soft shimmer. it is a dupe for UD
Liar
058
I smoked it out with Portal which is dupe for UD Blackheart
061
Before blending
062
Highlight with Cache dupe for UD Strange — also blended with a fluffy brush
059
Time to line the waterline and tightline and upper line
060
So far so good 😀 But maybe I am partial lol
063
These colors are great for bringing out hazel/green eyes.
069
Prime those pores!
064
under eye some depotted revlon line filler … my girlfriend and I went halfs on it and I let her keep the tube, and then rest of the face the prime time
065
Trying out this stuff. So far I really like it. I learned quick you DO NOT NEED a lot!
067
Redness gone 😀
070
Next used my MAC Mineralized foundation. This is awesome foundation in winter.
071
Gives a nice dewy glow look to the face… in my opinion.
072
I used the beauty blender to apply the foundation. In hindsight it absorbed way too much as this is not a waxy kind of foundation. I had to do four pumps to get the coverage when by hand just two … next time I will use it to blend after putting on by hand.
035
contoured with my trusty Sonia Kashuk bronzer
075
Can you tell where I put it? — forehead, under cheek bone, nose, and under chin,
073
Got this new from Ulta I wanted something super light to help highlight it is hard to find.
074
Area’s placed
077
blended with beauty blender
076
powder to seal
066
gave my skin a not so pale natural look
078
Decided needed more added highlight on the upper cheeks and nose
079
Ta Da 😀
080
Eyebrows next — still loving my Tarte brow mousse
081
On point but again I could be partial lol

nikon122313 033
Light blush
082
Just before last steps
084
Lip prep
085
Red lip — I love this lippie! And the mascara is in my top three.
088
Hair help and smell good stuff (like I said trying out my box stuff)
087
The final look
089
smoochie booches Bitches lol (extra points if you get the reference!)

So that is it. I hope you enjoyed this GRWM tutorial it was find to do and for a good cause. May you Valentine’s Day Or Anti-Valentines day be awesome as well.
